Metal square - long products, having an equilateral quadrangular cross section without a hollow space inside.

Depending on the production method, the square is made of hot-rolled steel , cold-rolled and cold-drawn calibrated square. Hot-rolled is obtained by preheating the metal in front of the mill according to GOST 2591-88. Cold-rolled square is more in demand because of a smoother surface and a clearer product thickness at the exit. Calibrated steel square is made according to GOST 8559-75.

The dimensions of the sides of the square (a in Fig.) For hot-rolled steel vary from 6 to 200 mm, for cold-rolled products from 3 to 100 mm.

Distinguish the square of the usual (C) and high (B) accuracy. The square bar is made measured, unmeasured and multiple measured length (l in fig.). In coordination with the manufacturer it is delivered in coils.

Steel square is used as blanks for further processing into shaped or high-grade metal. Use a metal square in the machine tool industry, automotive, agriculture for the production of parts for specialized equipment, in engineering for the manufacture of shafts, tappets, bushings, axles, plungers and other parts; in civil and industrial construction; for the production of gratings, wrought iron fences, fences and household decorations.

The square is made of steel:

- carbon steel of ordinary and high quality (grade St0, St1, St3, St5),
- structural alloyed, low-alloyed (St20, St35, St45, St40X, 65G, 30HGSA),
- of stainless steel.

Square steel GOST 2591-88 and GOST 2591-2006

GOST 2591 per square steel hot-rolled implies a metal profile of square section without a hollow space inside, with a side size of 6 to 200 mm. Hot-rolled square steel is made of steel billet on a rolling mill, supplied in rods. By agreement with the manufacturer, rolling of more than 200 mm in size is possible, and with a side of a square up to 14 mm inclusive - in coils.

Bars are made:

- measured length,
- of multiple measured length,
- unmeasured length.

- from 2 to 12m (from carbon ordinary quality and low alloy steels)
- from 2 to 6 m (from high-quality carbon and alloyed steels)
- from 1 to 6m (from high-alloy steel)

Used in construction in supporting structures; in various production, in the manufacture of stairs, gates, fences, in decorative elements; in mechanical engineering for the production of various machine parts.

Square steel calibrated GOST 8559-75

The square calibrated with a section from 3 to 100 mm, made by method of cold rolling, is made in accordance with GOST 8559-75. To obtain the most accurate products, additional processing methods are used, such as polishing and grinding.

The size of 5 mm and more - is made in bars, less than 5 mm - in coils. By agreement with the manufacturer, it is allowed to manufacture a square up to 13 mm in coils.

The square calibrated happens:

- dimensional,
- multiple dimensional
- unmeasured length with a residue of up to 10% of the mass of the party. The remainder refers to bars longer than 1.5 m.
- limited length within unmeasured.

Calibrated square is divided by rolling accuracy into:

- B - high accuracy

- In - the usual accuracy.

For the production of a calibrated steel wheel steel is used: carbon, low-alloyed, structural and alloyed and high-alloyed.

Calibrated square is used in mechanical engineering as a blank for machine parts: axles, shafts, plungers, bushings, pushers, etc.
